Majority in Me-Minor
Since I just moved here to Florida I am new to the job market and some things that I see everyday just piss me off.
“Wah wah wah… Poor me… I belong to an ethnic or other minority and I need someone to fight for me.“
No you don’t.
If it’s one thing I’m tired of it’s people sticking themselves in some niche, label themselves “minority” and then cry for equality. That old saying “some are more equal than others” nowadays rather apply to people who belong to “minorities” and cry for affirmative action on the job market than that prehistoric majority of white males in their 30’s.
We have gone so far now, in these overly politically correct times, that we overcompensate for the minorities, and thus employers, choosing between two “equal” candidates, are strongly advised by our government to pick whomever belongs to a minority. See, some are more equal than others.
I’m not a racist (the battle cry of racists everywhere, I know, but I’m not – pinkie swear). I never did anything to anyone. I don’t care if you’re black, Indian, Arab or fucking E.T. so don’t come crying to me about your ethnic minority. The only way you are less of a person than I am is if you don’t stand up and fight for yourself as an individual, and take responsibility for your own life, and then the blame is on you anyway.
I don’t owe anybody anything. What happened 200 – 300 years ago is of no concern to me, as it shouldn’t be to anybody else. Sure… Slavery was an abomination and the victims thereof were treated as dirt. Doesn’t matter one iota today. You can only cry for so long about injustices committed such a long time ago. There comes a time when you have to realize that the only one sticking you in that “ethnic minority” box is YOU, victimizing yourself.
Look around you… Wherever you look there are minorities; black, Indian, Asian, Arab, Hispanic, homosexual, odd religions, disabled people, old people, young people, sick people, veterans, 9/11 survivors, single moms, necrophiliacs and widows… Minorities everywhere…
Look at me for example: 32 year old white male, married with child and two dogs living in Florida in between jobs. As average and overly represented as it gets right? I’m the majority right?
Well…
13 % of America’s population is black
12.5 % are Hispanic
3.6 % are Asian
1 % is Indian
1.3 % is Jewish
0.5 % is Muslims
Left is 68.1%. 194 million people… People like me? Let’s see.
Of these 50% are women, leaving 97 million men.
Of these 9.2 % are homosexual, leaving 89 million straight men.
Of these 15% are over 65, leaving 76.5 million straight men under 65.
Of these 27 % have some sort of disability, leaving 55.8 million straight men under 65 with no disabilities.
Of these 25.7 % are under 18 years old, leaving 41.5 million straight men between the ages of 18 and 65 with no disabilities.
Of these 25 % are not married, leaving 31.1 million straight married men between 18 and 65 with no disabilities.
Of these 87% are employed or in school, leaving 4 million unemployed straight married men between the ages of 18 and 65 with no disabilities.
What did we learn from this (other than that you can lie through your teeth about anything by juggling statistics)?
4 million people represent 1.4 % of the US population, so just because I do NOT belong to any of the above minorities I am in fact belonging to one of the smallest one there are: the white heterosexual male in his 30’s, married and with no disabilities.
With this information I could go out and find some people like me (not too many mind you) and form a Straight Swedish-American Atheist Minority Choir performing “Poor us!” in C-minor outside the unemployment office...
... but I won't...
I will take responsibility for my life and do my thing regardless of what everybody else is doing, because that is after all the only minority anybody ever belongs to: Ourselves.
