Dear Mother and Father,

I realize you are still away on holiday, but I have big news and wanted to get this letter to you as soon as possible.

Mitzi and I are getting married!  No details yet, but I’ll keep you posted.

We were going to tell you at Easter, but after the unfortunate incident with the children and the dessert cart at the Country Club brunch, we felt it best to wait.  They’re really not “savages” - they just don’t get much sugar at home and the cart was a bit overwhelming for them.  I hope Mother was able to get the cherry sauce out of her white cashmere.

Please give my love to Aunt Bitsy and Uncle Thad.

Love,

Joe

P.S. Have they lifted your probation at the Club yet?

Dear Joseph,

Your mother and I returned home last night and read your interesting letter.

Aunt Bitsy and Uncle Thad send their greetings.

We have moved our club membership to Rolling Hills, where your mother can play tennis without hearing catty asides about hoodlums.

Sincerely,

Father

P.S. Your mother would like to know if Mitzi will be wearing white.

Mitzi -

I wanted to get this e-mail off to you as soon as possible.  I’m not sure what I did that makes you want to punish me, but it must have been serious if you expect me to pull together a wedding in just three months.  I do take offense at your previous comment that I tend to micro-manage things.  I don’t know where you get these ideas.

I have taken the liberty of making you a to-do list in order of urgency.  Please keep me posted on the completion of these items:

1.  Select wedding colors (pink and orange are very stylish this year)

2.  Order Dress (Millie Parkinson’s daughter got a beautiful dress at Wanda’s Wedding World - you should probably start looking there)

3.  Select Venue (How about that darling Bed & Breakfast on Chestnut Street?  They have a beautiful courtyard that would be perfect for your event)

4.  Guest List (I’m counting on your promise to “keep it small”)

5.  Caterer (I’m thinking a brunch with mimosas?)

6.  Cake (Please remember that no one likes fondant)

Dad and I are very excited about this, as you know how we feel about you living in sin.

I’m sorry the kids were more interested in playing X-Box than talking about the wedding.  I’m sure they’ll take a greater interest when the date gets closer.

Love,

Mom

P.S.  You’re not wearing white, are you?
